This set of over 3000 maps is presented according to the Range. Under a given Range are listed the Township maps for that Range. A specific Township may have several maps (up to six at this time); some may be limited resurveys of specific areas of the T&R, but not the whole plat. Most, but not all, are Land Office maps indicating patents; others are "base" survey maps used for other purposes by other agencies. We have included them in this site for the additional or different information to be found on them.
To locate a specific plat survey for a given area, the Township and Range must be known. If this is not known, this may easily be determined on the appropriate topographic map of Nevada which may be found in the DeLaMare Library, University of Nevada, Reno, the Nevada Bureau of Mines & Geology at University of Nevada, Reno; many public libraries including the Washoe County Public Library downtown (main) location, Reno, and the Clark County Library in Las Vegas or the Lied Library at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A 7.5 minute [1:24000], 15 minute [1:62,500], 30x60 minute [1:100,000], or a 1 x 2 degree [1:250,000] map may be used to locate township and range.
Where the map covers a key area – Dayton, Truckee Meadows – we are adding this information in the notes field so that they may be searched by Keyword across all historic maps on our site.
When viewing the index map of a given Range, note the number of sheets presented (up to six) for a Township and note if the list includes a source other than the State Lands Office ( e.g. Storey County Clerk) as we have indicated in the metadata (in drop-down box: View: Page Description) where a particular map was obtained if it is not from the State Lands Office. Please note that all metadata was not in place at the time this collection was placed on the historic maps web site.
